Roel Brakenhoff has started to focus himself on art a long time ago with a natural enthusiasm. In a distant past (1985) he started as a copywriter and walked the path that led to the world of graphic design. After that (2000) he crossed the shaky bridge to the visual arts. At first he concentrated on photographing nature fragments and architectural scenes. Then he ended up in a period in which he painted his photographs manually (he called it 'illusionary realism'). The next step was pure painting: freehand painting coming out from free thought (which is not easy). Thanks to various long-lasting and deeply rooted adventures in northern Portugal, he has been able to turn his feeling for color, form and composition into a clear signature. 'Discovering life with forms' is a theme that always plays through his mind. Artist Roel Brakenhoff is also able to make new unique art especially for you: paintings, wooden sculptures and, for example, murals. He has developed a clear preference for painting on wood. His work is characterized as landscape, natural and architectural. His combination of word and image is also striking and uncommon. In addition to making paintings, writing poems is an important part of his work. The following organizations, companies and institutions have purchased art from Roel Brakenhoff: Leeuwarden Medical Center, Waternet Amsterdam, Scholtens Bouwgroep Wognum and Hoogheemraadschap Noorderkwartier Edam. Roel Brakenhoff has his own exhibition space on Texel since 2011. Further information: info@roelbrakenhoff.nl
